NBC-2: Collier voters to decide on one-cent-per-dollar tax hike

Voters in Collier County have a big decision to make come November 6.

On election day, voters will decide whether to pass a one-cent-per-dollar increase, taking the county sales tax from six percent to seven percent.

If the sales tax increase passes, Collier County said it would raise nearly $500 million, all to fund county projects. The projects include roadways and sidewalks, new parks, and a new mental health facility.

Some say the one percent sales tax increase is the best way to fund these projects.

“Otherwise it’s going to be paid for with property taxes and or borrowing more money,” Chairman of One Collier Dudley Goodlette said.
